Lightening The Mood

March 29, 2014

I was a bit wiped out writing three long posts about my Dad – sometimes I was seeing pictures from the past, sometimes I was a bit drippy and many times I was smiling as I recalled things about that dear man.  I have been making a list of things I had forgotten so there will be other post about him.  It was a stressful week because of Dad’s birthday, but also because f Mom, probably more emotional stress than physical.

So I thought I would put a few photos on this post to lighten the mood and maybe make you smile or giggle.  There is no doubt about it, cats can put themselves in the most peculiar positions and places.

Farther Down The Road To Recovery

January 19, 2014

This has been quite a long 3 weeks,  now in its 4th week.  Bothe Eddie and I are having trouble shaking this flu balderdash, kind of up and down.  I have some energy and interest in things at times, other times I just want to lie down and close my eyes.  I find I sleep better, don’t cough as much but have trouble going to sleep at night.  I can now wake up in the morning and feel ready to do things, then around lunch I am exhausted and I have a lie down or a nap.  No doubt the nap doesn’t help going to sleep at night.  However, I need to catch up on the rest I didn’t have while coughing all the time.  Thank goodness Eddie also sleeping better as well.

Now that I have covered Sick Call – aren’t you absolutely fascinated with all my aches and pains?  If it sounds like whingeing, it isn’t – just an update.

I ended up with a lovely ending to my birthday on Wednesday.  I came home from the acupuncturist to find heavy fog – it was a day of mixed weather.  I had a lovely 2 hour nap and when I got up, it was sunny and we had a lovely drive into Seattle to have dinner at Il Fornaio.  The sun was beginning to set, so there was some pretty pink in the sky – it was dark when we came home, so I don’t know how the sunset looked.  I was just please the sun returned for my birthday dinner.

I had venison, so tender and delicious; Eddie had the chicken medallions.  It was the Festa Regionale for 2 weeks and we try to come and sample the different regions through the year.  We split a dessert and they brought it with a lit candle – happily there was no chorus of Happy Birthday by the wait staff.  It was a quiet, enjoyable dinner with the two of us – it was fun and a delight.  Doesn’t take much to make me happy, especially with Eddie there.

We came home and relaxed a bit, then early bedtime.  Since I gave Eddie some of my balderdash, he has been sleeping in another room so he won’t get any more.  I am a generous person, but that kind of generosity is not to his liking – nor mine when he gives me his balderdash.

I have been taking Chinese herbs and a supplement for my immune system along with acupuncture to clear all this out; it is taking its own sweet time leaving.  Thursday I went in for infusion and found myself really tired, so I came home and went to bed.  Not quite how I had planner my day.  But Cindy says rest is very important and I am taking her at her word.

Friday I went to see Mom – she was fast asleep in a recliner with her red throw covering her.  I didn’t want to wake her because she looked so peaceful and comfortable.  The recliner is something she is willing to use to elevate her feet and Judy says it is making a difference.  She said Mom has slept well the night before, but it was a cold, raw foggy day and she wanted to be warm.  I left her chocolates and cookies in her room for later.

Yesterday we had sun all day – we just did some shopping and had something at Barnes & Noble, then came home.  I ended up having a nap and Eddie made soup from scratch.  We have been eating a lot of soup lately, we’re thinking maybe it is better to make our own than buy canned soup.  We’ll see how long that lasts.

Eddie had plans to go wash the car today – we have decided to stay put and read or whatever we want because it’s foggy and we don’t feel like going out.  Eddie is reading a book he can’t put down – he spent the afternoon reading while I slept.  We both love books like that – I read them faster than he does because I want to see how it ends.  Then I am sorry to see it end.

It may not have been an exciting week, but I am glad to feel better and to have interest in things.  So in that vein, I will put a picture in this post to lighten the mood.  I saw these and thought – Yup, that’s Cat Logic!

A Little Shameless Self Promotion!

February 10, 2013

I have a blog post I am working on but have come to a standstill at the moment.  However, I have started a new blog called Catless In Seattle.  I came about by accident, I was commenting on another blog about cats and Russell asked if I had any cats.  I said no, I am catless in Seattle – he thought it was a great blog title.  I found myself creating a new blog and buying the domain name before anyone else did.   I only have a couple of posts plus I reblogged 2 posts from Russell – he has Caturday every Saturday and it is hilarious.

The blog is in its early stages and I am not sure how it will develop, it is fun and these days I am all about fun.  I am open to suggestions, critique and ideas.

Time for some “Awww” and “Cute!”

January 16, 2013

I was checking out Facebook the other day and came across some wonderful photos. They are from Linzse at https://www.flickr.com/photos/linzse/5279916483/   Thank You Linzse.  I was feeling a bit low and decided this is a good time to write a post.   I found the photos on Little Red Bird Facebook, I am so grateful to find this site.  You know how much I love cats, but since I received Bunny last year in rehab, I have more of an affinity for rabbits.  So I found some cute bunnies and cats that made me smile and want to cuddle them.

If that doesn’t give you the warm fuzzes, I can think of some other photos I found.  I heard a joke today I had forgotten about.  Two older ladies were driving and the passenger saw a red light coming, but they went right through it.  There was another red stop light which they went through.  When they approach another red light, once again they went right through.  she finally turned to her friend and said “Mildred, didn’t you see the red lights?”.  To which Mildred replied “Oh, am I driving?”

I noticed as I was writing this post that they had recommendations for a related site, so I thought I would add them as well.  I am learning new things on WordPress and it is really interesting what can be done on my blog.

It’s interesting how this blog works, sometimes it doesn’t make any sense.  I was trying to put three photos across the page and it looks great in the composing phase;  looks a whole lot different on the blog.  I finally figured out that the composing area is a lot wider than the blog you see on the site, no wonder it doesn’t quite fit.  I have tried several times to make it look nice, but it isn’t quite how I want it to look.  so I will have to play around with it in another post and see what it takes to look the way I envision it in my mind.  I have decided that frustration and working at it trying different things often helps me figure it out – sometimes it takes several sessions and some simmering the back burner.

Enjoy the cats and bunnies – I feel better now.

Life Happens While I am Planning

November 21, 2012

I planned to write a quick post yesterday – until I remembered I needed to check the drain at the bottom of the outside steps because water came in the day before.  I was checking it, getting the leaves out and found it was more than just leaves – it was stopped up with dirt – no wonder the water didn’t drain!  I called Mr. Rooter this time because they are 24 hours and it is the same price whatever the time of day.  I called about 4 int he afternoon and it was almost dark – not so good for working there because we don’t have any lights around the outside by the stairs.  I was told Don would be there in about 45 minutes or so – after an hour and a half I called to make sure everything was all right.  He finally arrived about 40 minutes later – he was stuck in terrible traffic.  He said it would cost $310, but since we are seniors, he had a coupon for $50 and he would give us 10% off.  So with tax it was about $278.  He was a really friendly guy and it didn’t take him that long, snaked through 3 feet of junk and now I don’t have to worry when we have hard rains the way it has been the past week or more.

This is one of the photos I wanted to put in the post yesterday – was in need of a chuckle, giggle and laugh – cats really make me laugh.   This is another one – I have found these through a site from Facebook.

Today I was up at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds by 7:45 and spent a good part of the day there for my friend Charlotte – her husband was having surgery to reverse his colostomy and she has been very worried about it.  He is almost 80 and there are so many risks to the surgery, she was glad both Joyce and I were there to keep her company.  Finally about 12:30 or so the surgeon came down to tell her the surgery went very well and he was very pleased with the results.  That was such a relief for her – I am glad I was there for her.  After that we went to the cafeteria and had lunch, then it was time for me to head home before the holiday traffic got too bad.

I just talked to Charlotte tonight to see how she is doing.  She had a nap for about an hour at home and saw Ron when he got to his room.  He is doing well and now she can finally have a good night’s sleep knowing everything went so well.  Also, after dinner Eddie and I made a cake from scratch to take to Vickie’s tomorrow – we are experimenting on her.  Smells good and looks good – I think it will be delicious.

I will admit to being a little hesitant to put this last one on – not everyone may think it funny – it just hit at the right time and I laughed out loud for a while at it.

I warned you!!!                Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, may it be filled with love, laughter and joy.

Dragging My Ass

August 24, 2012

Since I promised there would be no whingeing, I will just say that the last couple of days have been a try low point for me – not quite sure what is going on.  I do know the side effects of the drug in the study really wiped me out and I am no longer taking the drug.  Still another exit interview next week before I am done.  The frustrating part was I noticed improvement in some things and they told me Wednesday my Sed rate had been going down.  Must not be right for me.

I called my friend Carol today to see if she could meet me for lunch, think goodness she was.  Turns out she was having a crappy day and meeting for lunch got both of us out of our jammies.  I could have stayed at home, maybe had a good cry, but I didn’t want to do that – the thought of it made me feel low.  So lunch with Carol was fun and we both feel better.

Something else to make one smile – cats.  I ran across this on the web somewhere that shows cats just at the optimum moment when a camera was around.  Some are funny, some are amazing and cats always make me smile.

This one looks as if he had been shot out of a cannon!

Does he realize he is going in?

Play time is different for everyone.  Bet he is sure it’s a home run!

Nackered by a computer mouse!

There are no strings or  devices – it’s pure magic.

One last one – who is more surprised!

I knew the cats would help me smile and laugh.  I would rather show these than write about all my feelings of “oh-poor-me-osis” today.  My massage therapist just lost her mother on Wednesday – she died of cancer.  It was expected but I think it may still have been a shock when it happened.  I called her today to let her know I am sending her very special Lee hugs and anytime she needs one, it will be there for her.

Last night when I went to be, I decided to feel the feelings, be willing to accept that was how I felt in the moment and then let it go.  I also asked for an attitude overhaul.  The one thing that surprised me yesterday afternoon when this depression hit – I was thinking all these negative thoughts.  Then I stopped myself and knew it wasn’t true.  Yes, it was how I felt at that moment, but it isn’t the truth of my life or myself – that is new for me.

Enjoy the cats!
